That is what is going on over here at Chez SwissKnits... For instance, today Master E and Miss J are home ill. One with a fever, and one with, well, let's just say, nothing will stay down. Fun times. Yep, really fun times. And what is worse, it just seems to keep coming back. This year they have missed the most days ever from school. Sigh....
Look at this basket of lovely yarn. I have to say this was very fun for me, making little yarn cakes for the little knitters coming over.
The knitting party went VERY well!!! I had a blast. The girls had a blast. We all had a great day!! The girls were trying to come up with another day to get together, and they did not want the session to end. It's very difficult to come up with a day that works for so many different families... so what's a knitter to do? Why bring the knitting party to school of course. The girls learned the knitted cast on and were beginning to knit a square swatch to ultimately turn into a bunny. I saw that it was just too much. Too much information in one sitting, too much of a project for beginners, too much to do on their own. So by bringing the party to school, we can continue at a comfortable pace and the girls will be able to move on. I will go to the school every Monday and will be available to any of the 4th and 5th graders. Soon I will invite the higher grades.
I was so happy when I brought up a knitting group to the principal and she was so happy that I would do this... are you kidding me? Who wouldn't want to share this awesome part of their lives with other people. An enabler I am.
Look at the results from the three hours we had together. I have heard that one girl actually ripped back and began again! I was so happy that she was NOT afraid to do that. I know that, for me, it was always difficult to rip back when I began knitting. I'm so proud!
I cannot wait to see how each girl progresses. And, I can't wait to see if any boys join the group. This will be the perfect activity for those rainy lunchtimes that are bound to come soon.

My family passed (is passing) that virus around,too. We can't seem to make it go away. Yuck. And what fun to enable all the little knitters. I love showing someone how to start and watch them take off. One of the psychiatrists where I work came in at lunch and asked for help with a hat she was knitting. She is not ready to "knit at lunch" but is ready to knit on her down time. I feel like a missionary, spreading the knitting gospel.
Wow! That is great.. helping to raise up the next generation of knitters!!! And it looks like they did a great job!
