Rhinebeck Recap 2007

What fun DD9 and I had!! We both woke up around 5 am. Showered and dressed, and hopped into the car. My mind was not thinking of the M@paquest directions that I had carefully printed a week ago. No, I was thinking - Coffee- Drive-Thru - Coffee... and I took Rt. 94 into Vernon, to get coffee, then into New York State. I happily had my coffee and DD had her movie in the DVD player, and we drove. Then I realized that I was taking the long way... sigh... I just continued along that way while listening to the music of DD's DVD. Do you know that listening to the most recent version of Willy Wonka is slightly psychedelic at 5 am?

Despite the fact that I took a *different* way, we still got to the town of Rhinebeck early. DD and I had a wonderful breakfast at Famous Pete's Restaurant. The food was great, service fast and there was *fresh* spinach in my Florentine Omelet!! It was great!!

We got into the fairgrounds so quickly and easily! we began shopping right away. I wanted to get that all done, and brought back to the car so that we could walk around and enjoy and not worry about all of our stuff. I am incapable of buying yarn for projects ahead of time. I can only buy sock yarn and have a bunch of it around. So, I have a confession to make. I bought absolutely no yarn at Rhinebeck. I did buy fiber however. As well as a drop spindle. The lady at the booth where I made my purchase sat with me for quite a while showing me how to spin. Then she walked with me thru a few booths helping me to pick out some good fiber for a beginner. She was so nice!! She really went out of her way to help me. I really appreciated everything that she did.

Whoever it was (on Ravelry) who *raved* about the 4-H Lamb Chili.... ugh... I felt like I was eating lamb from the stable... the smell/taste was - disturbing. I have always enjoyed lamb, I have eaten it many times in Sardinia, Italy... it never had that smell/taste .... maybe it was Mutton Chili... oh, please, never again... Oh, and the whole time I was eating it... I was marveling at how I had on white and I was still clean. Then it happened... splat, on the last stinkin' spoonful.. on my white shirt. I was so upset... Well, perfect reason to buy a T-shirt. So off we went on the hunt -nothing fun, cute or cut right to be found. Sorry, I cannot wear men's T-shirts, they add about 30lbs to my frame. sigh....

I did do some nice shopping. I got a Kromski Niddy Noddy that matches my Nostepinne perfectly!! A nice beginner drop spindle, and some Lovely Wool (yup, that is what it said on the bag.) Some colorful fiber bits for some needle felting. A nice sheep statue for the bookcase. A teeny tiny niddy noddy with angora yarn on it - maybe for the Christmas tree? Some cards with knitting pictures that I plan on framing. A nice bookmark, and a cute "I like knitting, how about you, I like knitting yes I do" mug. and some books/magazines that I have been wanting. I am very happy with my purchases, but have a feeling that I may be the only knitter that left the festival without yarn!! Do I have to turn in my Knitter Card?

DD9 Bought a Llama marionette. As we sat down to rest our feet, people were amused by our Lana the Llama.

A mug and cards that I will frame for some fiber type art.

Love the marionette! Too cute.

Sounds like a great time.

I feel for you and your white shirt incident... that sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.

Looks like a great time!! I am amazed at your ability to resist!! You could be a very good influence on me :-) (Sheri does have the opposite effect.. just warning you!!) I'm afraid to learn to spin... but it looks fun! Love the marionette!
